Although Krav Maga borrows from different styles of martial arts, Krav Maga in of itself is not a "martial art." Rather, it is a system that combines striking, grappling, and weapons to defend against violent attacks. Krav Maga was designed to be practical, effective, and easy to learn.
From your very first class you will learn skills that you will be able to apply almost immediately. Be it an elbow, defense against a choke, or a gun threat, you will leave each class with tools that can potentially save your life. How proficient you become will depend on your level of dedication and the amount of work you put in.
As with any physical activity, you should first consult with your physician. We have plenty of students in their 50s, 60s, and even 70s who train with us consistently. We also have students with physical challenges who participate regularly. We understand that not everyone is the same. We are experts in finding modifications or workarounds to fit your capabilities. We believe your mindset, attitude, and desire to learn self-defense are as important as your physical capabilities.
FUN! Our adult classes are an hour long (Youth and Teen classes are 45 mins. long). The first 15-20 mins of each class is devoted to some form of conditioning (e.g. calisthenics, plyometrics, cardio, etc). The remainder of the class focuses on the lesson for that particular week. Each week we address one of the four pillars of self-defense. The four pillars are: Striking, Ground, Weapons, and Self-Defense.
As with any physical activity, there is always the risk for injuries. However, our classes are structured so as to minimize that potential. For example, students wear bag gloves to protect their hands, as well as groin protective equipment. Moreover, our instructors ensure that students practice safely and with the appropriate amount of intensity.
